Hang your Broom

I made this a few years ago.  My friend bought me the broom and we both just KNEW what I needed to do with it.....

I thought it turned out well.

Pumpkin Bread Yum!

I woke up this morning knowing that Pumpkin Bread was going to be on the menu.   I rummaged in the pantry and came up with the ingredients fairly easily... I mean... who doesn't keep pumpkin and chocolate chips on hand!  I mean, really!!   haha!  Well..... I do, anyway.

Then I hunted around on Pinterest thinking that I would remember the last recipe that I used from there... haha!  What a JOKE!  So... I just sort of made it up as I went... I made up a really good pumpkin cookie recipe years ago and based today's experiment on what I could remember of it.....
What could go wrong!!!??  hahahahaha!

First off- I had a large can of pumpkin... and I HATE to waste it....

So... I started adding a little of this and a lot of that... so... yeah.... here is what I came up with:

Mix as you go.

This is a good consistency for the batter.  Thicker than cake batter,
but thinner than peanut butter.

Out of the oven- but let them cool a few minutes before
  removing them from the pans.
I added pumpkin seeds to the tops of the ones with nuts.. since
I have some kids who hate nuts.  haha!

Lovely, lovely.... all in a row... the house smells heavenly!

Close up view... These are the mini loaves.  Don't they look delicious !!!

They turned out just scrumptious!  Give them a try!  I gave some away and they got gobbled right up!

Cheers!

fall fun vests

I like quilting..... I like crafting.... I like sewing..... I like creating for the sake of entertainment.... and it works for me like nothing else does.     I have made full-sized quilts...   I have made lots of wall hangings... but then.... how many does a person need???  I used to sell them- back in the day.... (when I was a stay at home mom looking for a way to bring in a little extra money.....  and I had the TiMe!!!

Now it is sheer pleasure... because I miss it sooooo much!!  I DO like teaching... but the TIME..... oh the time.....

Now... most of what I do is wish.... and now and then throw myself with a passion into a project here and there..... and wait, with baited breath.... for the next 3 day weekend...

I found that it works for me to get my creative juices flowing with SMALL projects that can be FINISHED....

So, often I create with a vengeance and design a quilt pattern or applique pattern- and then throw it all onto a vest or a jacket or a jumper.....  or some other form of wearable art...  and call it fun.... and DONE.....

Here are some examples:

I love making 3-dimensional pens and add-ons.
I use standard quilting assembly to create my own "fabric".  I mix it up with some machine applique and some hand applique techniques.... and THEN make it MORE dimensional by making mixed media pens, etc.....
I love to take the theme right on around to the back.
I collect fabrics that TALK to me.   I love the visual texture that fabrics can add to the "flavor" of the design.   My heart fairly RACES when I see a fabric that will be JUST PERFECT to help tell the tale....
Basic star with a little fussy cut cat in the center....

I make the pieced fabric- then ruthlessly cut it up to make the garment.
Sometimes this is REALLY hard to make myself do.... but... always worth it.

Happy sewing!

Wonder Woman Wonderful

My granddaughter is in kindergarten.  She thinks that Wonder Woman is the thing..... Halloween is approaching.... so... you KNOW what that means!!!  Grandma had better get on it... of course!!!

Talk about FUN!   This was one of the most fun costumes that I have ever made- and I have worked in theater as a costumer!   (What better way for a clothing artist to express herself??? Right?? Just sayin'!)

But when it is your grandbaby!  Well... that ups the ante a bit... doesn't it???

So.... here is what I came up with ..... She is gonna rock this!

She is gonna look Wonderful!
Headband and wristbands

Boots....
I made the top with longs sleeves because it is ALWAYS cold on Halloween.... She will have on tights underneath and some matching red bottoms to cover her little bottom.

The cape is blue sequins.... just because- who doesn't need to sparkle?  She fairly danced with the material... long before I ever cut it.... haha!

Then there comes the wristbands and headband.... MORE sparkle.  Gold glitter to be exact.

Boots were another thing.... She needed boots but who has red boots laying around??? (Well... I might.... but.... that is another thing altogether...)  I wanted her to have the warmth and durability of real boots but without the expense...   So, we took her own cute boots and covered them with the same fabric as her shirt was made from.   I put elastic at the top and under the sole to help them stay in place.

She will love it.

That is what matters....

Retail Therapy

Just went for a stroll in a craft store yesterday.... Oh! It was SOOOOO nice to have a day off work that wasn't a Saturday......

I went in to browse.... to just FEEL the happy thoughts flow.......

and they did......

And there were several (okay- several dozen) items that just NEEDED to head home with me...

Where I felt the glee all over again when I opened the bag (okay, okay.... BAGS!) when I got home.....

Let the fun begin continue!

I am quite sure that I NEEDED these things..... every single one of them.....

I don't know what I was looking for.... but I am quite sure I found it... them.....

Flat tip Calligraphy pens in DELICIOUS colors!!!

And the good old standbys!  Black ink..... Hope they are wonderful!
I love flat tip calligraphy pens the BEST--- I was doing Calligraphy before it was a "thing".... and I DO like the look of this "new calligraphy"... also known as "faux calligraphy" (HAHAHAHA!) which means FAKE calligraphy...... (HAHAHA!!!) ..... Which to us folks who grew up learning to write in CURSIVE...... means...... CURSIVE  (only- now it is MESSY CURSIVE)...... haha!   But.... yes.... I like it too..... and yes...... I "DO" it too....... but, still...... I head back to my old faithfuls...... my beloved flat tips......   I DO prefer a NIB pen.... but... these are handy to have in my purse when I have a LETTERING EMERGENCY....

And I love a good ZIG pen.... brushes in lovely, lovely pastels!  Yum!

And then.... how could a lovely craft store perusal end without adding a bunch of plaids to the cart....... Inconceivable!!!  Incomprehensible!!!

And... aren't they just the ticket!!  Oh! I cannot even WAIT to get started on these projects... whatever they turn out to be!

Cheers!

Is it getting to be that time???

I am getting my Halloween groove on.... excited to make the grandkids their costumes.... I am bubbling over a bit I think.....

Here is my thought for the day....

The season is coming...

I am getting excited with the briskness of the mornings. The frosty hint of winter, breathing around the corner.... but not yet.... not yet....
