The season is coming...

I am getting excited with the briskness of the mornings. The frosty hint of winter, breathing around the corner.... but not yet.... not yet.... Time to get our Merry on..... Time to get our warm things out...

I am a little mad for plaid!  Love it!  

We will be ready when the snow flies.  

Getting our house all warmed up and tucked in.

just believe!

I love hand lettering... LOVE it!

I sit down in the evenings and just draw, sketch, write..... etc.....

I have a love of words... and to make those words beautiful.   A work of art.  I love to play with shape and form.... and a splash of color.... One color is simply not enough.... so.... out comes the pens... and colored pencils.... and away I go.... page after page........ after page....

I don't even know what I 'watch' on t.v.  - some holiday cheery homey happy shows.... that keep me company as I get lost in my doodles.....

Then there is this one!  Green inks!  Love this one!  

How about red ink 

softer.... softer..... pencils...   

Love them all.... need to make some....more?   Of course I do!

Makes me happy.... pure and simple.

Time to get your holidays going

I went to a friend's house and was delighted to see her home looking all festive for the season.  She had two Christmas trees up and decorated beautifully.  She had a three-tiered holiday village the likes of which I have never seen before.   It was awesome!!!! Crazy awesome!  The three tiers had lights which each individual building sat upon and there were mirror ponds complete with little boats "floating" on top... The scene was amazing!  There were no less than 30 ceramic buildings (a conservative estimate).   Delightful!

Back at my house... I was thrilled to have a string of red lights that is wrapped around my front window... and another up the front post.   I have my made a few plaid pillows and brought out my winter moose..... haha!  That is okay.... it is my style.... white and red meets rustic....   more or less....

Most of what I have is homemade and ... well... it is mine.... So I am good with that....

I think that the important thing is to enjoy what is out there... and have joy in our hearts.

Getting my Merry on

I am busy getting my Merry on.... pulling out my Christmas things and making some new ones.

This is my MOOD today!  

One of my favorites!  I painted him years ago.  Still love it! 

Yes the stockings were hung.... but there is no chimney anywhere... So the gate will have to do.      

 And, since our family is now numbering 29....yes... 29!  I scaled back to "just the kids"... (because there are 7).... (yes... SEVEN) I made these when the kids were young... They loved how big they are.  I loved making them!  Applique and hand quilting are both fun things to do! 

and NOW- it is GRANDMA time!  Ain't life grand!!  I was excited to get this chalkboard when a local store no longer used it.  I change it up with the season.  And this is the BEST season!

Thanksgiving Weekend

I used to jump out of bed with excitement about what I was going to create that day. I would have my sewing tables full of projects in various stages of completeness. (yes... tables- as there were three of them)


There, also waiting, was my painting table- laden with stacks of wood that I had cut out and sanded- ready to be painted. My paints were organized by color and type. My favorite brushes, standing upright in a tub so as not to bend the bristles. Always there, at a moment's notice to leap into action.


I made things for people. I created with a purpose. My babies sat on my lap as I painted... My older boys would answer the phone and take messages, saying, "Mom can't come to the phone right now, she is working."


I kept the laundry going and filled the crock-pot with that evening's dinner. Bread was rising and I made sure the house was tidied before I sat down to the project(s) of the day..... sewn, painted, quilted, handstitched...... with love.

I must confess.... I well and truly miss those days... My house warm with the smells of cooking, noisy with the sounds of children playing, my hands busy with my putterings.... I miss those days.


I got worried about being home alone when the last of my seven kids headed off to kindergarten. I got worried that I would miss them too much to rattle in the empty house....


So, I went back to school and got my teaching degree... and found more children to keep me company.... and so it went.... and it was good.

But now..... NOW... I need to go back to MYSELF... to who I am.... to what I am. So, these last few years I have started doodling.... and carrying around pens to entertain me... to keep my hand in.... sort of.... haha! Funny thing--- I have been doing calligraphy for 30 years (the REAL one- not the new fad of "faux calligraphy".... hahahahaha!!!!) So, it is sort of fun to see that the fad has caught up to the old me...... haha! Gotta love it!




So... I have doodled and written "sayings" for a few years and satisfied my yearnings for a little creativity that way......

sort of..... 

(haha!) 





BUT..... in the last little while, I have found that I need a bit more.... I need to get my paints out for a spin.... and warm up my sewing machine...

Yes... it is time...

So let it be written.... so let it be done.
