I must say, I am positively itching for October! I think it is my MOST favorite month....
The weather! The weather! The weather!!!
The colors!! The scents of the season! The food! The fun!
Yes... absolutely my favorite!
I painted these some years ago.... still some of my favorites.
Cheers!

Celebrate the Harvest Vest
I love to sew crafty things. I do love to quilt. I do love to applique. I do love to make artwork leap off the wall...
I am capable of sewing... yes... technically capable. I made my daughter's wedding dress this spring..... I designed it.... and.... made it come to life...... and I adored doing it for her- because I wanted HER to have what she wanted for that special day.
That being said..... I DO NOT want to sew wedding dresses for MONEY.... yuck!!! ugh!!! NOOOO!!! I am not "that kind" of a seamstress. I sew for love.... and only for love.
That being said..... most often I use my 'capability' for creating artwear.... I do make wallhangings... and quilts... etc.... but, really- unless it is meant for a gift... I do not make them. I am not motivated to create for utilitarian purposes- at least... not in the traditional sense....
So... let me share with you what I DO make....
Often I start with a FEELING.... the seasons will dictate that. I head into my sewing room and run my hand across the stacks and stack of fabric..... and wait for inspiration to settle in..... and then I begin to pull fabrics from the stacks and create sort of a collage of color..... and then the fun begins.
Sometimes it will become an applique... machine applique is the fastest.... But if I have time.... TIME.... then I will hand applique.... I love that method best.... I take it with me to ball games or even just to the couch to watch t.v. I need to have my hands busy.... I don't just sit well..... busy hands, happy heart.....
I like my "artwork" to be dimensional. It pleases my soul. I want it to tell a story.... although... admittedly... sometimes I am the only one who knows the tale it is telling.... haha! That is okay.... It entertains me.
This is my Harvest Vest. It is a mix of quilting style piecing... and applique... with a healthy dose of stitched on buttons and goodies to add that special something.... This one has a 3D scarecrow that I made to add just the right touch. I also added tiny glass beads and stitched on fabric bows.
Should I publish these patterns??? I don't know...
For now... I will just share the picts..... and my imagination.
Cheers!

Little Miss Cuteness Needs an Outfit
I had fun this week making my favorite kindergartener a new outfit.... oh yes I did! This morning - at crack of middle of the night dawn... I leaped out of bed and went into my tiny sewing room. I simply could NOT wait for the downstairs to be finished and my lovely, well lit, spacious sewing room of my dreams to someday, hopefully happen... It is a dark, cold basement right now. Cement floors... no walls.... no lights.... no ELECTRICITY...... (well, that was a good plan, wasn't it!! haha)..... So, I crammed a worktable and some shelves for fabric along one wall of our tiny guest room and a twin bed along the other.... The is a small walkway between... and I am making it work! You bet! The bed works dandy fine as a place to layout ideas..... and I put a table top ironing board on the foot of the bed and ... iron there..... it works.....
The perks are, on those sleepless nights, I can step across the hall and get busy creating in my own private little sewing nook.....
Sewing Nook...... doesn't that sound lovely?? Much nicer than "Make-shift sewing corner in a cramped and dark room... So.... that is now what it is..... my lovely Sewing Nook.....
My 5 a.m. burst of creativity lead me to this!
I bought an inexpensive little onsie... I thought it was adorable.... The more I looked at it, the more I thought that I definitely needed to add a little bit of sweetness for our new bitty girl. It is fun having tiny girls to make things for. After having a long stretch of boys coming to the family.... which we LOVE TO PIECES.... It is fun to have a couple of little girls to add some sugar on top....
Cheers!

Whoo is in the mood for fall?
I had a day off today and needed to feel creative. I get this way as fall approaches. I am so done with the heat and summer... School started to lets get going with fall!
I went into my sewing room and stared at the fabric. I have stacks of it, neatly folded and ready to use. I buy lots of fat quarters to always have plenty on hand to chose from when I applique. I love making small quilting projects because I can GET THEM FINISHED....
Today, rather that just making a little wallhanging, I decided that one of my little sweeties needed a cute new outfit. I chose an OWL motif because.... WHOO doesn't love owls???? I mean, really! So, there was the starting place. I used colors that lean toward halloween but never quite SAY it. My thinking is.... if I make it Halloween then there is a definite limit of time to wear this... and ... who wants limits??? So.... I grabbed a t shirt and found some cute leggins ... and jazzed up the t.... I am really liking tutus right now, and found this one - so grabbed it too... (Yes... I have tulle netting..... Yes, I could have made it..... but.... WHY??? This one was made and inexpensive... and besides.... it left me MORE time to cute up the shirt... RIGHT??)
I am thinking that my little gal is gonna be a the cutest!
Cheers!
